Stay Safe to Stay Open Utah

Yesterday, the Salt Lake Chamber announced the launch of “Stay Safe to Stay Open,” a campaign to inform and support businesses in following COVID 19 guidelines from the Utah Department of Health. The initiative was introduced with an invitation for businesses to take a pledge that they will follow best practices to protect employees and customers. Businesses that take the pledge will receive a “seal of approval” to display in their commercial locations and be included in an online searchable database.

Participating businesses pledge their teams will follow state health guidelines and to:

  1. Conduct temperature checks before work and stay home when sick;
  2. Wash hands frequently and avoid touching face and eyes;
  3. Practice physical distancing including wearing face coverings in close common areas;
  4. Learn about high-risk groups and help protect them;
  5. Cover mouths when coughing or sneezing;
  6. Clean high touch surfaces frequently; and,
  7. Follow public health guidance as updated.
Go to https://stayopenutah.com/ to take the pledge today!

Adjustment in Business License Fees in Millcreek

Millcreek has partnered with Zions Public Finance to conduct the first business license fee study since the city’s incorporation. The results are guiding an update to the fee schedule that more accurately reflects the true cost of licensing. “For some types of businesses, they may see a slight increase, but for most they will see a savings,” said Alex Wendt, Millcreek Business License Administrator. For an example, Alex points to the basic business license fee that will reduce from $150 annually to $145.

Another change is the removal of the $6 per employee charge that the city inherited when it adopted Salt Lake County ordinances. The employee charge is being replaced by a fee that better reflects which types of businesses utilize more police resources. “This will be much more fair and equitable for our business community and more precisely capture the city’s true cost of providing services,” said Alex. The Mayor and City Council adopted these recommendations in their City Council meeting on June 22.
