Salty Peaks Skate & Snowboard Shop

December

Salty Peaks Snowboard Specialty Shop
                                                  3055 E 3300 S, Millcreek UT

Salty Peaks Snowboard Specialty Shop was founded in 1987 and created the "Southwestern Surf Skiers Association" that was responsible for getting many of Utah's resorts open to snowboarding when no resorts allowed snowboards.

Over the last 34 years Salty Peaks has become one of the best snowboard specialty shops in the country. It has been pioneering the shop "team concept," and providing knowledgeable sales, expert repairs, an ever widening range of board-related services, and quality rentals to help introduce the community to snowboarding in a friendly atmosphere. Salty Peaks often becomes the catalyst to getting new riders to become life long lovers of snow.

Salty Peaks is also the home of the "Utah Snowboard Museum" with the world's largest collection of vintage snowboards, skateboards and artifacts under one roof and it's all right here in your Millcreek community.

Millcreek City Hall

Millcreek City Hall Future Plans

Time is running out for City Hall's sojourn in the remodeled strip center on the corner of 33rd South and 13th East. Centrally located, the strip center has provided a convenient and comfortable temporary space to start-up our new City four years ago. But our lease will be up in the summer of 2023 and we need to make plans for a permanent location.

Locating City Hall in the new City Center was not in the original thought process that brought about that development. But a conversation last summer with an owner of property in the City Center got planners within the City thinking:

Would it be possible to save tax dollars by leveraging a public-private partnership to build a new City Hall?

Could putting City Hall next to the Common serve as a catalyst for economic development in the City Center?

The City began to solicit Millcreek residents for their thoughts about a new City Hall. Should we build one to own, or lease space again for another? Where should it be located? Is it a good idea to combine civic and commercial space?  We'd very much appreciate your clicking here and filling out the survey.

The City also engaged MHTN Architects to look at the possibilities of placing City Hall within the City Center. Earlier this week at a virtual special meeting with the City Council, MHTN presented some of those possibilities. Click on the button below to see the presentation. (The meeting starts at minute 7:51).

As MHTN explained, tying civic uses together with public space has been accomplished successfully in many cities. MHTN provided several examples of such public/private partnerships, where shared parking, shared space for public and private activities, and shared financing benefit the entire community. A true city center, they explained, has residential, commercial and civic uses.

MHTN presented ideas for retail spaces on a ground floor below a possible City Hall in the City Center -- spaces that would open onto the Millcreek Common's planned ice ribbon and park. They showed the possibility of accommodating the UPD's Millcreek Precinct within the building, which would benefit the City Center with a community oriented police presence. They posed ideas for sustainability of the facility. They gave examples of site plans and outlined the pros and cons of possible locations within the City Center.

A new City Hall, regardless of where it is located, how it will be financed, and what it will include, is still very much in the planning stages. Residents' input is an important part of the City Council's decision-making. Please take the survey. Please watch the City Hall Presentation. Then click here to submit your comments to the City or email them to Rita Lund at rlund@millcreek.us. Or call Rita at 801-214-2707. She would love to hear from you.

REOPENED PPP, EIDL, and Other Help for Small Businesses

With the passage of the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits and Venues Act the SBA has reopened the original Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loan on January 11. If you already received the first PPP loan, and have spent it all on qualifying expenses, you can apply for the PPP round 2.

Requirements for the PPP Round 2

"The brand new “Second Draw” program is for small businesses, non-profits, sole proprietors, and independent contractors who have exhausted their initial PPP loan. The program will make new loans through March 31, 2021 or until the new funding is exhausted.

Eligibility: You are eligible for a second draw loan if you have exhausted your first PPP loan and

  1. you have no more than 300 employees, and
  2. you have experienced a greater than 25% reduction in gross receipts during the first, second, third, or fourth quarter in 2020 relative to the same quarter in 2019.

Entities with significant ties to China are ineligible for a second draw loan.

Loan Amount: The maximum loan amount is the average monthly payroll costs for the entity during the 12 months prior to the loan or, at the election of the borrower, 2019 multiplied by 2.5 (or 3.5 for employers in the accommodation and food service industry).
Seasonal employers utilize average monthly payroll costs for a 12-week period between February 15, 2019 and February 15, 2020.

A loan may not exceed $2 million." Read more from the US Chamber of Commerce here.

Utah Business Webinar on the Second PPP Loan:

Small Business Quarantined Employee Grant

The $2 million Small Business Quarantined Employee Grant uses federal CARES Act funds as part of Utah’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. It provides reimbursement to small business employers who pay employees to stay home during quarantine or isolation for a maximum of 40 hours per week for a period of up to two calendar weeks.

One of the easiest ways to protect a business as well as slow the spread of COVID-19 is to ask sick employees to stay home. Many employees are nervous to take time off if they are sick for fear of losing their job or income while they get better. Employees may also hesitate to tell their employer if someone in their home has tested positive for COVID-19 or if they have come in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

This grant will help make that choice easier by allowing employers with less than 50 employees to continue to pay quarantined or isolated employees and then be reimbursed through the grant.

To be eligible businesses must have:

• Less than 50 employees in Utah.
• One or more employees receiving notice that the employee must quarantine or isolate due to positive COVID-19 test or exposure to someone who has tested positive.
• Continued to pay out regular wages to an employee(s) while the employee was in quarantine/isolation.
