Millcreek Lifts All Declarations of a Local State of Emergency

In keeping with guidance from the Salt Lake County Health Department and state legislation, at the Millcreek City Council meeting on May 24th Millcreek lifted all Local State of Emergency Declarations imposed related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What does this mean to the Millcreek business community?  To support businesses who were impacted by the pandemic, the city relaxed two main ordinance requirements:  signage and parking.  As the pandemic raged, businesses could place advertising signs in locations not normally allowed, for example, A-frames and blade signs were allowed in park strips and along roadways.  Additionally, parking requirements were relaxed to allow restaurants and businesses to utilize portions of parking lots as outdoor seating or sales areas.

Now that the State of Emergency Declarations have been lifted, all previous requirements will be in effect.  Businesses will be asked to remove signs placed in park strips or along roadways and outdoor seating or sales areas placed in parking lots should be removed.
Businesses will receive notice of the change and allowed a short period of time to make these changes.

Support for our Millcreek businesses was a top city priority during the pandemic, and we are hopeful that the easing of these requirements assisted during the emergency.  Our local businesses are the lifeblood of Millcreek and we are looking forward to a return to normal operations.  We thank the business owners who faced many challenges to overcome the serious impacts of the last year and appreciate their hard work.

Defending Your Small Business From Big Threats

Upcoming Webinar
Defending Your Small Business From Big Threats
June 1, 2021
2pm Eastern, 11am Pacific

"For small and medium-sized businesses, one of the biggest challenges is wearing many hats. This challenge stretches both time and attention thin. Present-day cyber threats are real and the days of protecting your organization with simple antivirus and a firewall are history.

Though most reporting on cyberattacks focuses on the impacts to large companies, the truth is, small businesses are not immune. Cybercriminals know that small businesses rarely have the resources to defend themselves the way that large enterprises can, which makes them lucrative targets for ransomware and cyber extortion.

Prioritize protecting your business and join us!

This webinar will cover:

  • Common cybersecurity misconceptions for small business
  • Real-world case studies of cyber intrusions and what could have been done to stop them
  • The basic structure of a successful cybersecurity program
  • How small businesses are using managed services to see, stop, and prevent determined attackers"

Millcreek Businesses in the News

"It’s finally gardening season and we have some great ideas on how to add a dash of color to your planters and gardens. ABC4 Utah’s Reagan Leadbetter is with Larene at Millcreek Gardens.

Growing gardens and flowers in baskets and planters is easy and can be a fun experience but there are a few steps you’ll want to follow to make sure they last through the spring and summer.

  • Container – They will need room to spread their roots and you’ll want drainage holes. Now that we have that in mind – Choose a basket or planter you’ll like!
  • Color – Pick a color scheme you’ll want or you’ll like. There will be a ton of options available.
  • Needs – You’ll want the flowers that are in the same containers to have the same needs, such as watering, sunlight, and other care requirements.
  • Soil – Potting mix should be high grade and encourage healthy, robust growth. The benefit of blooming, beautiful plants is what makes it all worth it!
  • Planting – Look at where your planter or container will be placed and plant the flowers in layers. Taller flowers in the back and showy flowers in the front. Using a hanging basket or something that will be visible from all angles? How about a tall or bushy plant in the center?
  • Care – Feed your flowers and plants with nutrients, keep them watered and make sure they’re getting the appropriate amount of sun and shade.
  • Finally – Sit back and watch them bloom!

As always, Larene and the staff at Millcreek Gardens can help you with picking the perfect choice for your planter or you can buy one already made when you visit them at 3500 South 900 East in Salt Lake City, UT.

Stop in and get all the tools, tips, and supplies you’ll need. Visit the Millcreek Garden’s website or call (801) 487-4131 for more information."
