Homelessness and Its Impact on Local, Small Business "The problem of homelessness negatively impacts our entire community – including local, small-businesses. Homeless encampments near retail businesses and restaurants present difficulties for small business owners who are already struggling with labor shortages and ongoing challenges related to COVID. If this is a concern for you, please join UIBC for our special advocacy event "Homelessness and its Impact on Local, Small Business" on Wednesday, August 25 at 8:00 a.m.
Join via Zoom for this 90-minute discussion on practical and compassionate solutions to address the homeless problem while safeguarding the health of our businesses. Our guest speakers will be Allison Dupler, Community Engagement Coordinator with Salt Lake City’s Homeless Engagement and Response Team (HEART) and Dennis Faris, Business and Community Engagement Liaison for Homeless Outreach Program at Volunteers of America." Ribbon Cutting Epic FitnessWe want to welcome Epic Fitness to their new location on 3065 S Imperial Street.
"Epic Fitness, founded in 2009 by Ben Fogel, exists to help each individual to become the best possible version of themselves and to get 1% better every day. We believe our members deserve a place where they can go and feel accepted, no matter where they are starting their journey. We understand the current fitness landscape, and how hard it can be to find a fitness home. That is why we strive to be the most supportive, positive, motivating and inclusive gym in the entire state! What makes us different is that we deliver your own unique program in a very small, semi-private team environment. We use a proprietary custom program design app that gives our coaches the ultimate tool to be able to get our members results in the shortest amount of time." Recycling Market Development ZoneMillcreek is considering applying to designate the City with a Recycling Market Development Zone. If Millcreek's application is accepted, businesses would be able to apply for tax credits for certain recycling activities.
Qualifying businesses would be able to apply for the following tax credits:
- "5% Utah non-refundable tax credit** on the purchase price of machinery and equipment used directly in commercial composting; or manufacturing facilities or plant units that manufacture, process, compound, or produce recycled items of tangible personal property for sale, or reduce or reuse post-consumer waste material; and
- 20% Utah state income tax credit (up to $2,000) on eligible operating expenses, including payments made to third parties for rent, wages, supplies, tools, test inventory, and utilities, for establishing and operating recycling or composting technology in Utah.
In addition to tax credits, the RMDZ legislation also entitles businesses to select services offered by the municipality sponsoring the Recycling Market Development Zone." (https://deq.utah.gov/waste-management-and-radiation-control/recycling-market-development-zones)
Millcreek wants to know if our businesses would be interested in this program! Email businesscouncil@millcreek.us to let us know if your business would be interested in participating in this program!

Millcreek Business of the Month Application Please read carefully – before submitting your application!
Millcreek Business Council proudly hosts the Business of the Month award to connect our community with its leaders! We want to learn about you – what makes your business unique, what lessons have you learned that may help others, and how do you give back (i.e. community service, civic engagement, events, fundraisers, local sponsorships, etc.)? We invite you to think of this application as less of a “sales pitch” for your products – and more of a legacy builder. If a statue was built in your honor, what would the plaque say? Have fun with it… and find us on Instagram @MillcreekBusinessCouncil to view past recipients for inspiration! Questions: please contact BusinessCouncil@millcreek.us.
