February Business of the Month!Congratulations to the February 2024 Business of the Month, Lumos Language School! Thank you for all you do for the Millcreek community! Stop by their wonderful business located at 220 E 3900 S, Millcreek, UT and tell them congratulations on their accomplishment! "We at Lumos Language School are thrilled and honored to be recognized as the Millcreek Business of the Month. This accolade is a significant testament to our longstanding commitment and connection with the Millcreek community, which has been integral to our success and positioning in the educational landscape. For years, Lumos has been a beacon of learning and cultural exchange, welcoming students from 48 different countries. Our school has become a secure haven for those who choose Utah as their temporary home during their educational journey. The diversity and richness of our student body have not only enriched our school but also the broader community. We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support and encouragement we've received from the Millcreek City Council and community members. This recognition is not just for Lumos but for each one of you who has been a part of our journey. Our motto, “Enabling Success,” reflects our mission and aligns perfectly with the vision and efforts of our community leaders. We are proud to have offered our Intensive English Program to over 10,000 students, helping them learn English and paving the way for their continued education in colleges and universities. These students typically spend anywhere from 4 months to 3 years with us, a period during which we witness remarkable transformations in their language skills and cultural understanding. Moreover, Lumos plays a vital role in the local economy by providing employment to 150 families through our dedicated staff and teachers. In addition to our language programs, we offer a range of services to the community, including serving as a test center for GMAT, GRE, PRAXIS, and TOEFL exams. We are also proud of our robust TESOL certification program, which has set a high standard for teaching English to speakers of other languages. In closing, we wish to express our deepest gratitude for this honor and for the continuous support from everyone in Millcreek. We look forward to many more years of serving and contributing to this wonderful community."

Millcreek Miracle - Tell Your Business's Story!Has your business been involved with the community and given back in some way? Have you sponsored an event that supports the community or supported a nonprofit organization? The Millcreek Miracle wants to promote these stories to the community and encourage the community in return to shop local. It's wonderful to support a business who supports their community. Miracles happen in a community when people, businesses and causes come together to make a difference. Zions Bank recently hosted the Lights On Event here in Millcreek! They brought in students from the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind to decorate their tree in their bank's lobby! They provided the students with art supplies, refreshments including cookies and Capri Suns, and had the children visit with Milo the Millcreek Moose! The children loved the event and we thank Zions Bank for being involved with the community in this light-hearted, meaningful, and fun way. (Millcreek and Zions Bank received permission from all guardians of the students to post this photo to external communications.)

Epic Fitness Wellness Corner - What's the Deal with Protein Intake?By: Ben Fogel This week I would love to give a shout out to protein and how important it is when you look at reaching any health or wellness related goal. I truly feel having an adequate (and even high!) amount of protein in your diet is the secret weapon against poor health, obesity, diabetes and so many other health related illnesses out there. Allow me to unpack this for you… Protein is one of the three main macronutrients alongside carbs and fats. Each of these play a role in a well-nourished body. Protein is the building blocks of your muscles. Adequate consumption helps you recover properly from your workouts, and from all that life throws at you. And if and when one is looking to lose fat, there are three big benefits: 1) When you’re getting sufficient dietary protein, you’re more likely to burn a higher percentage of fat instead of burning muscle (protein) for fuel. 2) Protein is more filling and satiating. This means you will tend to overconsume calories much less. 3) Protein takes more “work” for your body to digest. So the absorbed calories that you consume are lower. The most common protein food sources are meat, fish, and dairy. Not a meat-eater? You can get protein from foods like tofu, lentils, beans, and legumes. Depending on your goals, you may go with higher or lower fat sources. We don’t need to be afraid of fat, but if you’re prioritizing fat loss, you may want to prioritize lower calorie (fat) versions. Alternatively, if you want to gain muscle, you may need the extra calories from full-fat choices of protein.

Alyssa Henrie Last Day Friday, February 2nd - It's Been an Honor Working With You All!Hello Millcreek Business Council, I hope you’re doing well. I have some bittersweet news that I’d like to share with you all about my future plans. My dream in life has always been to go attend law school and pursue a career in the legal field. As the Law School Admissions Test is getting closer, I must put my full focus and effort into studying for the exam. The exam is changing in August, and the last two exams I can take for the content I’ve already studied for are in April and June. Seeing that those exam dates are quickly approaching, I have decided to take a step back, study full time, and give this exam my all. My last day in the office will be Friday, February 2nd. This has been an amazing full-time job, and I’m so appreciative of the experience working for Millcreek. I admire how hard you all work to make the city a better place and cannot thank you enough for allowing me to be a small piece in the larger story of the success of Millcreek and the Business Council. If you know of anyone who may be interested in this position, please share the job posting with them! This has been an amazing position and one I’d highly recommend to anyone at the start of their career looking to gain a lot of wonderful experience: Economic-Development-Assistant---January-2024 (millcreek.us) Please keep in touch! My LinkedIn is Alyssa Henrie! It’s been an honor working with you all.
