MISSION:

To support our Millcreek Youth with their educational pathways from K-12 and post-secondary education

 Education Committee:

This committee is made up of different community members and partners who come together once a month to discuss ways how we can best support Millcreek youth with their educational needs.

 School Partnership Meetings: 

The education coordinator attends school partnership meetings with the following schools: James E Moss Elementary, William Penn Elementary, Evergreen Junior High, and Cottonwood High School. In these partnership meetings, we see how the city can best support the schools.

The education coordinator also works with Olympus High School, Skyline, and Utah International Charter School.

Programs/ Ongoing Projects:

  • Supporting ESL adults at Bud Baily apartments with the Child supervision program. 
  • Hosting career events at schools

Millcreek Youth Council Requirements:

Applicants must be Millcreek residents and must be entering grades 11th and 12th grades. A map of Millcreek’s boundaries and area high schools may be found HERE.

Goals:

The goal of the Millcreek Youth Council is to teach Millcreek youth about municipal government and provide opportunities for community service in both formal and social settings. 

Expectations:

Youth Council members are expected to commit 60 hours for the entire school year.  This includes meetings, service projects, and other events. Members must ensure that they are able to make Youth Council a priority and set aside the necessary time in their schedule to attend meetings and activities.

The Youth Council is limited to 25 members. If a student is no longer able to fulfill their duties on the Youth Council, they should inform the Youth Council Advisor so that another deserving student may take their place.

Duties:

The Millcreek Youth Council helps inform the Mayor and City Council of the needs and wishes of the youth in our city. In addition, the Council assists with a variety of events and activities such as:

  • Winter Clothing Drive
  • Park Cleanups
  • School Supply Drives
  • Project Connection Sub for Santa
  • Local Officials Day at the Legislature
  • Other city events

The 2025-2026 term begins August 18, 2025

Council meetings will be held at Millcreek City Hall on the first and third Monday of each month from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM during the school year (August-April). Meeting dates are subject to change due to federal, state, and school holidays.

Note: The Bylaws do not yet reflect the new changes made to the 2024-2025 term (example: meeting time changes) and are in the process of being updated and approved by the Millcreek City Council. Please continue to refer to the Bylaws for questions regarding member qualifications, conduct, leadership position responsibilities, etc.

About the Education Coordinator: Kristy Ghimire Parajuli (she/her)

Kristy was born and raised in Utah and calls Salt Lake City her home. She is a first generation Nepalese-American who graduated from the University of Utah in 2024 with a double bachelor’s in Political Science and Health, Society, and Policy. She started as an education intern for Millcreek and now is the Education Coordinator. She wears many hats in this role.  She works with different schools, teachers, parents, and partners to support our goal and community. She also is the lead youth council advisor that works with our Millcreek Youth Council.  She loves her role and working with her team to support the community. Kristy loves hiking, dancing, going out with her friends, and being with her family.
